Boncayao Farm a NOMCARRD grantee

Brgy. Apil, Oroquieta City – Owned and farm-managed by Mr. Michael E. Boncayao of Barangay Apil, this city, The Boncayao farm is a grantee of the Northern Mindanao Center of Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resources Research and Development (NOMCARDD) of the Philippine Center (PCARRD) and the Department of Science and Technology.

With the grant of P250-T, Boncayao Farm will be the model farm of the Science and Technology based farm on Chemical Free Vegetable Production for Ampalaya and Sweet Pepper variety. This grant was approved thru the STBF (Science and Technology Based Farms) Component 2.3 program to enhance FITS for Rural Development under the Techno Gabay Program.

Said program was also augmented by the support from the City government now under the leadership of City Mayor Jason P. Almonte.

As one of its administrative agenda, Developing Agriculture for the people’s benefits, especially the farmers, the new administration is now moving forward to have more agri-aqua marine based program initiatives. Oroquieta City is an Agricultural community.

Late last month, the European Commission Focused Food production Assistance to Vulnerable Sector (EC-FPAVAS) thru its implementing agency SEAMAD/SEARCA Development Management Office of Misamis Occidental, two upland barangays of the city namely; Barangay Clarin Settlement and Bunga had been tapped to be model barangays for High Value Vegetable production, organic Fertilizer Development and Up-land Aqua culture development programs.

Said program is to help reduce poverty, improve well being of people and ensure access to safer food.

“With this grants and projects will be expanded to our other barangays as it goes along with this administration goals to sustain farmers life and be progressive and well develop” City Mayor Jason P. Almonte adds.
