Crime Prevention Week celebrated

Oroquieta City – With this year’s theme “Komunidad at Pulisya Magkaisa Tungo sa Pag-unlad ng Bayan” the City Police Office celebrates the National Crime Prevention week pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 416 dated August 31, 1994 to campaign and advocate crime prevention.

As crime prevention is everybody’s business, OCPO or the Oroquieta City Police Office under OIC-City Director P/Supt Paciano A. Deloso and the members of the city Police Force start the day blowing their whistles last September 1 which commences the week celebration.

P/Supt Deloso with his Police Community Relations (PNP-PCR) Office has also planned for other activities for public awareness such as forums and putting of streamers along strategic areas and conducted media relations to local media personalities to help and support the weeklong celebration that will end on September 10.

After the first day of the celebration, OCPO conducted its forums with the Talairon National High School with Anti-Illegal Drug Abuse and Anti-Criminality Forums that discusses issues concerning crime prevention. In the said activity students from the said high school eagerly listen and join open forums to ask questions and share experiences on what the student role in their social life not only as students but residents of Oroquieta City.

Pastor Marcelino Paler, Member-Adviser of the Council of Community Elders and PNP religious Adviser talks on the Moral and Spiritual Aspects, Ill Effects of Drug Abuse was given by P/Inspector June Jose D. Booc, While, Police Inspector Cerilo B. Verano talks about the Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drug Act of 2000 as amended.

Other speakers like, P/Inspector Jenrech C. Hilot shared his views and researches on Prevention and Control of the illegal use of prohibited drugs and other substance and put some inputs in the Anti-Kidnapping Law.

SPO2 Alma Pescador talks on R.A. 7610 or otherwise known as the Law against Violation of Women and Children Rights and the advocacy against Youth Gang Prevention was given by PO2 Wyneil Glodove.

On the other hand, OCPO is also preparing for the organization of PNP “Kiddie” Cops for the Elementary while for the high school level, Drug Abuse (DARE) Reduction and Education awareness will be given to the students.

Meanwhile, P/Supt Paciano Deloso informed the public that to enhance police visibility they are now in Memorandum of Agreement with Mr. Junvil A. Insong of the Misamis University-Oroquieta City School Campus, College of Criminology graduating students as augmentation force for the city police in relation to their academic course as Police Interns.

OIC- City PNP Director Deloso farther said that the Police Interns will be learning in experience how to do police works especially in Traffic enforcement, Beat Patrolling and Conduct Police Investigation, subjects of which pre-requirement of their criminology course.

In related developments, the City Police Office is now a recipient of the PNP Field Training Program (FTP) trainees of 16 police officers-trainee from the PNP Regional Training Center, Regional Office 10 as on the job training for 5 months to complete their Public Safety Basic Course to become a police officer.

“Both the PNP Police trainees and the criminology students of MU can now help in the city campaign against criminality” He said.
