COTABATO, Philippines - A 7-year-old boy was killed and 5 others wounded after an improvised explosive device (IED) went off at a police outpost beside Datu Piang, Maguindanao municipal hall around 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

Meanwhile Datu Piang municipal administrator Musib Uy Tan said they have not determined the motive behind the explosion.

As of posting, authorities were still in the area conducting an investigation into the type of bomb used by the perpetrators.

"Hindi pa natin malaman kung bakit pinasabugan ng bomba ang outpost. Meron kasi tayong konting problema sa Reina Regente," Tan said.

Datu Piang municipal police station chief, Police Inspector Daniel Pumecha said the bomb was placed inside the bag and left in front of the post. No one noticed the bag.

Last Thursday, a civilian was killed and 7 others wounded after a mortar landed inside a residential compound in Pikit, North Cotabato. It was reportedly part of a firefight between a Civilian Volunteer Organization (CVO) and a group of a certain Tata Uy, who is allegedly affiliated with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Authorities are now investigating if the two incidents are related.
