Oroquieta City – A young biker in the Junior-Senior category of the 2010 Labyuganay 9/1st City Mayor Jason P. Almonte Cup runs away the championship prize in the cross-country mountain bike competition.
Mr. Alfritz Alfeche of RAMBO (Road and Mountain Bikers of Ozamiz) Team wins the 22 kilometers mountain bike competition held in celebration of the City Fiesta in honor the Lady of the Holy Rosary with some 60 bikers all over Mindanao to compete.
Alfeche in green and white jersey proved his might against other bikers who join the race. In his category and over-all champion received 4-T cash prize and a plaque together with Cycle Line Extreme Biker Jeffrey Saballa of Butuan-Gingoog-Bayugan City team wins the 2nd place and run away with 3-T cash prize and a plaque, and 3rd place with a cash prize of 2-T went to another Cycle Line Extreme Biker Cesar Lapasa of the same team.
Dr. Morell Matildo, President of the Host Biker team, The Off-Road Biker of Oroquieta City (TORBO) said that this is not the first time Oroquieta sponsored mountain bike racing, but according to him this is the 1st City Mayor Jason Paredes Almonte Cup.
The Mountain Bike competition started at Barangay Talairon passing the mountain roads of barangay Bantawan-Villaflor-Mobod-Canubay-Loboc and finishes at the City Plaza with a more or less 22 kilometers length of dangerous and exciting roads.
The competition categories range from 18 years old as beginners to 60 years old bike enthusiasts; Beginners’ category, Junior-Senior category, Veterans category, Fast Boys category and Golden Boy category.
To add to its enjoyable and exciting race, XELA Marketing of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Guantero sponsored some raffles prizes to the bikers of which, the business couple gave away bike jerseys and a Lady Bike No. 24 as major prizes, which the bikers brings home to his family.
The participating teams were: IMOBIC of Iligan City, Iligan City Cycling Enthusiasts, TORBO of Oroquieta City, NABikers of Naawan Misamis Oriental, Trekkers of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, CCORBA of Cotabato City, ZNOBO of Zamboanga del Norte, BADI of Dipolog City, Clarin Bikers Club, Clarin Misamis Occidental and the run-away champion RAMBO of Ozamiz City.
